Bike Shed shows support for Farnley Country Park

Showing support for Farnley Country Park

Local businesses and celebrities have come out in favour of Farnley Estates’ proposal to create a country park in Huddersfield. The vision is to give local people and those from further afield greater access to a huge area of countryside in South Huddersfield. The Country Park will feature a circular track for cycling, walking and riding, as well as various facilities for visitors including adventure golf, aerial adventure and camping.

Bike Shed, the Huddersfield-based sports retailer owned by local businessman, John Andrew, is fully behind the idea to provide off-road cycle tracks, and more, for local people and visitors to the area.

“Cycling has taken off in this country, and especially in the local region thanks to the success of last year’s Tour de France and this year’s Tour de Yorkshire. Yet there are hardly any designated off-road cycle tracks in Huddersfield, where families can cycle in relative safety,” said John.

Simon Corp, Marketing Manager, Direct Golf, added his vote for the proposal. He said:

“We are always on the look-out to grow the game of golf, so for a local business to approach us was fantastic. We are 100% behind them developing this new facility to the area which will keep people active but more importantly give everyone the opportunity to try new activities."

Huddersfield Giants’ star, Eorl Crabtree, has also expressed his support for the plan to open up Farnley Estates land for the benefit of local people and those from further afield. He said:

“Anything that encourages people to get out and about into the countryside has my vote. We usually have to travel out of the area, to places like Dalby Forest and Tatton Park, to enjoy the activities that Farnley Country Park could offer.”
