To encourage people to get out and about and enjoy the countryside, Farnley Estates has put together a series of walks that can be downloaded from this website.
There are two main walks, with options to make them longer and more challenging, or quicker and easier, as required. The Farnley Full Monty follows a circular route from the Golden Cock in Farnley Tyas, out towards Honley Road, through Molly Carr Wood across to Manor Road and back into the village. There’s also the option to take the path from Molly Carr Wood up to Castle Hill, if you want a more challenging walk.
The second walk, named Le Tour has been devised especially to help anyone visiting Farnley Tyas during the Tour de France Grand Depart Stage 2, to make their way from the village to the tour route. It starts at School Wood in the village through Ludhill and out onto Hall Ing Road. The route then follows public footpaths at the side of the railway line and out onto Gynn Lane in Honley. Walkers can then continue the circular walk up Gynn Lane to Hall Ing and up through West Wood, back into Farnley Tyas.
“We’re lucky to live in a place, which has some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. By publishing these walks, we’re hoping to encourage more people to come and enjoy the land, and improve their fitness at the same time,” said Paul Sykes, Farnley Estates Managing Director.
“We have agricultural activities and nesting wildlife at certain times of the year, and do ask that walkers act responsibly, follow the countryside code and keep to designated paths. To avoid bringing diseases, such as ash dieback, onto the land we also ask that walkers take sensible precautions such as cleaning their boots before starting out,” added Paul.
