the future...IN FARNLEY

Over the past couple of years we've asked the people of Huddersfield and beyond, how they could benefit from greater access to the Estate in the future.

More than 400 organisations, including charities, schools, businesses and local community groups, representing more than 780,000 people - and with a reach in excess of 1.5 million individuals - have given us their thoughts. Thank you to everyone who got involved.

The requirements fall broadly into health and recreation, sport and leisure, tourism, conservation, rural business, education and employment. All of which can be delivered by creating Farnley Country Park.

Have your say

Kirklees Metropolitan Council (KMC) completed a public consultation on its draft Local Plan, which sets out how Kirklees will develop, create jobs and build new homes over the next 20 years.

It's great news that the potential for Farnley Country Park was recognised by KMC, which  designated the area as Strategic Green Infrastructure (see below). But we do need land on Penistone Road to provide a gateway, with parking, facilities, an education centre and rural businesses. We also need land within the boundary of the Park to be allocated for housing, which can be sold to fund the creation and ongoing maintenance of the Park.

The consultation has now closed and the Council is expected to report back on the results of the public consultation later this year.

Strategic Green Infrastructure

The area we've proposed for Farnley Country Park has been designated as Strategic Green Infrastructure in Kirklees Council's draft local plan. Visit Natural England or read section 2, pages 7-14 of their Strategic Infrastructure Guide.
