Farnley Ride

On 12th September, Farnley Estates held its first ever ‘Farnley Ride’.

Good weather (for both horses and riders), brought a good number of people to the Estate and the village.

The “feedback” from those utilising the riding was all positive with people enjoying a considerable area of open country in which to pace their horses.

The course was laid out by Pru Sykes and allowed riders to gauge the fitness of their horses. In the case of some of the younger riders (and even in the case of some of the older ones!) this was the first opportunity to ride on open country without any concerns as to vehicular traffic and other users of ridden routes.

We are now considering the removal from the arable rotation of some headlands of land in order that they may be planted up with a long-term equine gallop grass mix, which should allow for a limited number of ridden open days during the year.

A very generous sum was raised by those taking part which has been split between Help For Heroes and our Parish Church.

Thanks are due to the Estate farmers and land contractors who made two good ridden loops available without the need for the opening or closing of field gates. Thanks also go to the Farnley Tyas Shoot who provided marshalls on the day.

Estate half-year report

Our Estate Manager has produced his half yearly report and we are pleased to make it available for the first time.

To view and/or download it please click here.

Phytophthora

It has come to our attention that a number of trees on the Estate are suffering a fungal infection called Phytophthora.

The Food & Environment Research Agency (Fera) has produced a leaflet called “Phytophthora – Don’t let it destroy our environment”.  To download it please click here.

Planning permission

We have planning permission to knock 19 The Village and the adjoining barn into two properties. If you are interested in this property please contact Paul Sykes on 01484 667744.
