Farnley Estates

Intended Planning Permission

It is intended that an application for planning permission will be made at the end of July for the redevelopment of the former Sycamore and Beech Farms buildings. The application will be made by Watson Batty on behalf of J Radcliffe (our joint venture partner).

You can track the application here by inserting ‘Watson Batty’ into the ‘Applicant / Agent Name:’ box.

The application is the result of a lot of hard work over a number of years. The Estate has requirements and made stipulations to both the developer and the architect as a result of feedback from the community. The result is an innovative application that looks at the development in a completely different way.

The plans are not for an estate, but for a range of buildings that fit seamlessly and unobtrusively into the village in such as way that it is hard to see how they fit at all. The buildings will reflect local building styles and materials and be linked by paddocks rather than roads.

Natural hard and soft landscaping will provide the divisions between properties and flexible footprints will allow buildings to be sized according to demand.

We are very excited about the application and the innovative approach that has been taken to address the requirements that we insisted were met.

As always, we will keep you up to date with a progress report via the Farnley Estate website.

Farnley Ride: Horse riding on the Estate

Introduction:

It is very rare that horse riders get the opportunity to explore acres of open grassland, arable and woodland without having to negotiate busy roads. The course has been specially developed with a comprehensive riding experience in mind. With very limited riding (without some road hacking being required) within the area, the Estate’s routes will offer a great opportunity to hack around beautiful countryside on a variety of terrains.

The course also includes optional fences which vary in size from tiny logs to solid, bold cross country fences.

Riders will soon be able to get the opportunity to apply for Annual Membership when the Estate opens their ride in Spring 2012 on a year round basis. If you would like to register your interest download (right-click) and complete the Estate Ride – Application Form and return to us, do not include any payment at this stage.

Open Days:

In the meantime riders can sample the course on our regular Open Days.

Our Next Open day will be Saturday, 15th October 2011. Please click here for details Farnley Estate Ride – Poster A4.

Farnley Forum

We will be holding our inaugural Farnley Forum on Thursday 30th June with key groups from within and around Farnley Tyas.

The breadth of activities that Farnley Estates is involved in makes it difficult to keep everyone from the community accurately informed and up to date. The Forum will allow discussions about everything and anything that we are proposing and provide a platform for the Estate to inform interested parties and seek suggestions from the wider community.

Examples might be the woodland management programme, the opening of parkland in association with Kirklees MC, plans for a Biomass boiler, and the Farnley Forum will be a practical route to communicate our ambitions to all interested members of the Farnley Tyas community.

The first meeting will agree a memorandum of understanding or modus operandi of the group and set a model for future meetings. It is the Estate’s intention to formalise the meeting by appointing a rotating Chairman or Chairwoman, producing minutes that will be downloadable from our website and holding the sessions under Chatham House Rules. Following the first meeting, it is envisaged that the Farnley Forum will meet once or twice a year.

If you would like to attend the Farnley Forum please contact Paul Sykes on 01484 667744 or email Paul here.
